"Forgive me?"
He held out a bouquet of flowers for her to take. He was 17, new to love, and using his father's moves.
"Course I do."
She flung her arms around him. She was 17, with hearts dotting her eyes, and so sure of everything.
"You know you're the only girl for me, right?"
"And you're the only boy for me."
They held each other's hands as they exited the house. Outside, the rubble and destruction was a reminder that they were in fact the last two people alive on earth. He took her over to one of the few trees left standing in the area. Taking out a pocket knife he carved their names into a tree with a simple message, 'together, forever'.
If she hadn't forgiven him, then he would've been screwed.
