New Movie Releases Reviewed in 7 Words Each
Lord of the Dance 3D (limited) - Horrible visions of Flatley dancing in heads.
Limitless - I'm trying to keep an open mind.
The Lincoln Letter - Ryan Phillipe a murderer? I'd buy that.
The Music Never Stopped (limited) - Not sure I want my heart warmed.
Paul - All the movie I need this weekend.
I know how much you all must have missed this column. Where else are you going to find out what's playing today? I mean sure there's a thousand other sites that could give you that information. Most of them probably better written and certainly more informed; a lot of them already having seen the movies. But you come back each week because... Yeah, I've no idea. Psychological problems maybe?
I'm not even going to pretend that my focus this weekend isn't entirely on seeing Paul. I'm unabashedly a fan of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. I've been waiting for the release of their alien road trip comedy since they announced it forever ago. Seth Rogen should be right in his element deliverying the funny and Kristen Wiig who I've never really enjoyed on SNL I tend to love in movies. For the trailer impaired (Anna) here's a preview:
I'm really on the fence about seeing Limitless. Obviously it's not a theater watch for me, but I do find the plot interesting. A drug that makes you a genius? Yeah I could use one of those. However I'm always cautious about these types of films. Seems like it's got a great concept, but it comes down to execution. Doesn't help that the screenwriter who did the adaptation has a lengthy career of crap films (Look Who's Talking Now?! The Freaky Friday remake?!) to boast of. There's also my aversion to Bradley Cooper who doesn't bother me as an actor so much as I just feel like he's got to be a major prink. But as long as word of mouth is decent, I'll catch it post theater.
Oh and hey, I hear Paul is really good. Did I mention that it looks great? If you need extra convincing, why not check out this sketch Simon Pegg and Nick Frost did:
Have a great weekend everyone!
Limitless was good the first time it came out when it was The Matrix. lol
ReplyDeleteIt's a sad thing to have to say, but these days, I'm afraid to spend money on anything with Robert De Niro it.
ReplyDeleteThe Lincoln Lawyer was a good book, so I'm gonna give that a try.
Paul! I do want so badly and I had forgotten the name, woohoo.
ReplyDeleteAnd don't you talk smack about my look who's talking boy :p
I saw the trailer for "Paul" a few days ago. Looks like a worthwhile flick!
ReplyDeleteWhile I don't think I would naturally gravitate toward a movie like Paul, I sure did get a chuckle out of the trailer. Limitless, actually kind of looked interesting to me, but in (like you said) concept only.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the trailers, TS! That's more TV then I've seen in weeks!
HUGE fan of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost over here and anxiously await an opportunity to go see Paul!

Definitely agree with you on the limitless thing ... and bummed to find out the writer has some busts. Movies rarely have cool concepts - but they're good at messing them up when they do.
ReplyDeleteI just LOVE Simon Pegg and Nick Frost...
ReplyDeleteShaun of the Dead was a masterpiece of hilarity!! And I am dying to see Paul.
The Star Wars sketch had me laughing so hard I started coughing and couldn't stop (I'm sick.) Are you trying to kill me??!! LOL
Thanks for the reviews... Have fun watching Paul! Stacy H-W
pegg & frost are geniuses. i am so so looking forward to seeing paul. ps. glad you're back!
ReplyDeletealso, do you follow nick & simon on twitter? their tweets are nine levels of awesome. actually, strike that: they take it to eleven.
ReplyDeleteHere we are stuck with The Hole 3D and some crappy Lindsay Lohan movie...I so missed Black Swan and The King's Speech in the theatres while in Bombay...this small town sucks when it comes to English stuff not to mention the added horror of Harry potter and Tobey Mcguire spouting Tamil my lingua franca...grrr....laugh your head off...go ahead...
ReplyDeleteLook who's ruining that movie for me now. haha
ReplyDeleteYou wrote "a nightmare vision of Flatley dancing in heads," but shouldn't that be "in heels"? All of his Irish stomps are done in like five inches of elevator shoes.
ReplyDeleteYou made some good points there. I did a search on the topic and found most people will agree with your blog.
