New Movie Releases Reviewed in 7 Words Each
Hop - Russel Brand... Family movie... Does not compute.
Insidious - Didn't I see this on Discovery Channel?
The Last Godfather (limited) - Sweet mercy, I must see this movie!
Rubber (limited) - Sometimes the concept is enough for me.
Source Code - Been there, done that, might go again.
Wrecked (limited) - Hopefully it's as good as it sounds.
Hop is a little hard for me to swallow. I'll admit, in terms of movies, I'm a holiday snob. I'll watch a hundred Christmas movies when the season rolls around, but Easter... It just does nothing for me. And seriously, who says Russel Brand and thinks kid's movie (discounting Despicable Me as this movie is from the same people)? The trailers really haven't done anything to help its cause either. Tired jokes about easter bunnies pooping candy is a hard sell. So is the blend of live action and CGI. It's very rarely a combination that proves entertaining. I'll wait for the word of mouth, but currently I'm just not interested.
I'm not even going to try and explain what Rubber is about. If you haven't heard of it, take a look at the trailer:
The concept is fantastically bizarre. The film which is getting a limited theatrical release has actually been available On Demand for awhile. There have been some mixed reviews. Some hating it, others saying that it's an art house meta comedy that you'll either get or won't. I have no idea if it's good or not. Really just the thought of it is funny enough for me. But who knows I might yet give it a try.
On the other hand sometimes a film looks like it's be bad in all the wrong ways and yet I'm drawn to it like a dog to a porcupine. In this instance I am referring to The Last Godfather.
The obvious attempt at a horrible 3 Stooges, Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin mashup can't possibly be good. It was released in South Korea back in December and has not been looked upon as anything approaching good. And yet... And yet I can't resist. I'm sure I'll regret it the next day, but I've got to watch it anyway.
I'm posting this column a little earlier than usual this week, because I will be participating in the A to Z Blogging Challenge for April. All month I will be doing posts, one for each letter of the alphabet. For this period you can expect a post on Saturdays as well. I will still keep this column going, but other than that I'm going to stick to the alphabet theme. Should be a lot of fun.
