All the week's new releases in 7 words each
The Greatest (limited) - Brosnan and Sarandon? That's a losing combination.
After.Life (limited) - Interesting... couldn't be worse than the title.
The Black Waters of Echo's Pond (limited) - It's like Jumanji only slightly less horrific.
Ca$h (limited) - Look, a worse title than After.Life
Letters to God - Wow, this just sounds so... completely depressing.
When You're Strange: A Film About The Doors (limited) - A.K.A Better a Door than a window.
Date Night - I should be interested, but I'm not.
So five* different people pointed out that I missed mentioning Greenberg the last couple of weeks. It's a great looking indie film from Noah Baumbach who also wrote The Squid and the Whale and Margot at the Wedding, amongst other films. I haven't seen the movie myself yet, though I am planning on it. I have heard from several people about how great it is. I've heard things about Ben Stiller's performance especially. That he fit the role perfectly. Which is good, cause I've seen far too many of Stiller's indie films that were... nope I was taught in this situation to say nothing at all. Still I'm looking forward to it.
Date Night as I mentioned looks like the kind of film I feel like I'm obligated to think better of it than I actually think it'll be. I used to delude myself on certain comedies like this, saying "I'll see it on video" and then when it comes out, I just never find myself actually willing to pay a dollar to rent. Not that that means it'll be a bad movie, just that it doesn't appeal to me like it should.
I finally watched Music Within. It's based on the true story of Richard Pimentel (played by Ron Livingston), a Vietnam vet who lost part of his hearing and played a huge role in creating the Americans With Disabilities Act. It's a really fantastic story, filled with very sad and touching moments as well as some very funny moments. If you haven't already seen it, I would highly suggest adding this to your "to watch" pile.
Next week will see the release of KickAss, which promises to be on of the few movies this year with a title that's a self fulfilling prophecy.
Have a great weekend everyone.
*it was actually only four, but as Ally was so persistent, I counted her twice.
Music Within sounds like the best since I am a livingston fan. I totally can't wait for KA. I loved the graphic novel (aka: comic books). Don't tell anyone.
ReplyDeleteSorry, I'm a sucker for Noah. It was a great flick. I love the idea of mid-life crisis or that Garden State or Beautiful Girls concept of the late 20-something guy coming back home, etc. I'm not sure you'll make the connection in what I mean, but still.
ReplyDeleteI love this line the best:
Date Night - I should be interested, but I'm not.
Thanks for the movie review. Definitely sounds like something I might be interested in! I can totally relate to someone with hearing loss. ;)
ReplyDeleteI am waiting for some Kick Ass myself...it looks bad ass!

Oh, Date Night. You should be so funny! It just seems like Tina Fey and Steve Carell might just be the chocolate cake and gravy of the comedy world (you know, so amazing on their own, but a really, really terrible combination...)
ReplyDeleteHa. I like Amy's line. Though the date night movie just looks so corny and mass-appeal. I mean, I guess they both have big primetime network shows ... but somehow this movie bugs me.
ReplyDeleteKickass I am jazzed about though.
And awesome reference to a Stanley family fave of my mother's as well (if you don't have anything nice to say ...).
Wow, I feel out of it. I haven't heard of any the movies you reviewed today. Damn I am a loser.
ReplyDeleteI thought no one else knew about Music Within! I saw this movie with my mom and (sadly) didn't expect much. I loved it! But I hadn't met anyone else who had seen it until now. :)
ReplyDeleteThe Greatest has Carey Mulligan in it! She's really really good!
ReplyDeleteI am so confused by After.Life. There is another slasher looking flick coming out this month....I don't remember the name and all I can think is what is wrong with the producers? Who releases horror films in April? You really should have gotten your butts in gear and released on Valentine's Day.
ReplyDeleteIm still down like a clown for BLACK WATERS, but Robin Williams and giraffes will sorely be missed..
ReplyDelete"I'll see it on video." Yeah, that's almost every movie for me. Last one I saw in theaters? Sherlock Holmes. Before that? Uh ... Star Wars, maybe.
